The government of Bangladesh held a coordination meeting with the country’s leading business and industry figures at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, to finalise the rollout of a nationwide programme providing free school uniforms, jute-made bags, and shoes to primary school students. Safwan Sobhan, Founder and Chairman of Safwan Bashundhara Global (SBG), attended the meeting and assured the government of SBG’s support in helping supply free jute school bags and shoes to as many as 1 crore 70 lakh students enrolled in government primary schools across the country.
Briefing journalists afterward, officials said the distribution of uniforms, jute bags, and shoes will begin in July, starting with two primary schools in every upazila across the country, with matching uniform colours and designs for boys and girls. The programme will launch as a government-funded pilot, with industry leaders including Safwan Sobhan pledging support toward execution as it scales up to eventually cover all 1.7 crore government primary school students nationwide.
